Russian drone attack on cargo ship in the Black Sea / One person dies

A cargo ship in the Black Sea has caught fire after a Russian drone attack, killing at least one person, Ukrainian authorities have announced.

According to Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba, a drone hit the Panamanian-flagged ship Victress, causing a fire on board. The victim is a 58-year-old Egyptian cook, while eight other crew members were rescued.

The Ukrainian navy also confirmed that the ship suffered severe damage and is no longer able to continue sailing. There were nine sailors on board from Egypt, Turkey and India.

Kuleba also said that Russia had attacked two other merchant ships flying the flags of Belize and Palau overnight. However, no injuries were reported in these incidents.

The attacks come at a time when tensions and military operations in the Black Sea continue to escalate, endangering the safety of maritime transport in the region. /CNA
