Is there a plan to reach a final agreement?/ Mediators provide details on

Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar declared on June 22 that negotiations between the US and Iran have concluded, with both sides agreeing to a framework towards reaching a final peace deal within 60 days, which includes ensuring safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and an end to fighting in Lebanon.

Few concrete details were made public in a joint statement by Qatar and Pakistan. The agreement appears to reflect the general objectives set out in a memorandum of understanding signed last week by the presidents of the US and Iran.

That memorandum left many of the terms of a 14-point agreement open to interpretation. It was not immediately clear whether those issues had been clarified in the latest agreement.

The statement said that, while formal negotiations had concluded in the Swiss resort town of Bürgenstock, further technical discussions would be held by the delegations over the next week.

She said that "working groups" will be established to address "nuclear issues, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute resolution group to ensure effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding, as well as other issues."

US officials did not immediately comment.

Iran's Foreign Ministry, in statements reported by Iranian state media, said that the US blockade of ports had been lifted, that "some frozen assets" had been released and that a "major development plan for the reconstruction of Iran" had been launched.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that, regarding the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, "it was agreed to organize a mechanism," without providing further details.

Earlier, as the clock approached midnight, a senior US diplomat said US and Iranian teams would work “throughout the night” to try to turn the memorandum of understanding into a permanent military and political solution. Officials said the talks lasted 18 hours.

The agreement, and especially the agreement to establish a reconstruction fund as well as the lack of clarity on Iran's nuclear program, has been met with anger by American Democrats and also by many Republicans.

In addition, many Israeli leaders have stated that the country is not a party to the agreement and have pledged to continue attacks on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.

Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed militant group and political party that controls most of southern Lebanon, is considered a terrorist organization by the United States, while the European Union has blacklisted its military wing but not its political branch.

Reports have also suggested that opposition from some hardline factions within Iran — including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — has put additional pressure on Tehran's negotiating teams. /REL
