Luxury gift from Qatar/ Trump unveils new presidential jet

US President Donald Trump publicly unveiled the Boeing 747, the plane donated by Qatar, currently at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, which will become the new main aircraft of the President of the United States for his travels.

The new Air Force One is scheduled for a ceremonial flight on July 4th as part of celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States, along with other aircraft.

According to estimates, the price of the plane is around $400 million, but additional costs to equip it as a presidential jet could bring the total well over a billion dollars.

Experts note that equipment costs could exceed $1 billion, in addition to the base price of the aircraft.

The generous gift from Qatar has sparked bipartisan criticism in the United States over security and ethics concerns, especially since Trump does not plan to leave it as a legacy for his successors, but will instead bequeath it to a presidential library bearing his name. /CNA
