Named as the super typhoon "Yagi" in Vietnam left serious consequences with at least 22 human casualties, 200 injured and great destruction.

The storm roared for about 15 hours in Vietnam. In many areas it was accompanied by heavy rains, so the authorities warned of the risk of landslides and floods. Even on Sunday (08.09) the work to avoid the ruins continued.

In the tourist-favorite Ha-Long Bay, many ships were badly damaged or completely destroyed. This bay is classified as world heritage by UNESCO.

Balance of damages

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh organized a video conference with representatives from 26 provinces and cities affected by typhoon "Yagi" to consult on the consequences of the storm, which swept the country from Friday (06.09.2024). The balance of damage is over 3,000 houses damaged, 120,000 hectares of rice fields flooded and over 1,000 fishing businesses destroyed and flooded. There are also many areas of electricity and telecommunications outages in Hanoi. Meanwhile, "Yagi" in Vietnam from the typhoon has weakened to a low pressure tropical storm.

Previously, as a result of "Yagi" there were at least 24 deaths in China and the Philippines. The super typhoon was the strongest in years in the region.

Consequences of climate change

This region is affected every year by tropical storms and typhoons, which cause strong winds accompanied by floods. In a study published in July, it is found that climate change causes typhoons to form near the coasts, then involving countries with greater speed and power./ DW
