Former mayor Erion Veliaj, through his lobbyists and lawyers, made a reaction the day before. A reaction that was not unexpected.

This happened even before the Supreme Court decisions were issued, the decisions in the courts of various levels where the legal process against him for the security measure was taking place.

Immediately after his arrest, Erion Veliaj had harsh, scandalous statements, attacks, accusations, wiretapping that showed that the former mayor of Tirana was attacking, accusing, and moreover, deceiving public opinion. CNA has shown this with facts on several occasions.

Not only the accusation that they had asked for 2 million euros to release him, a slander proven by the prosecutors, but also the accusation that the prosecutor in the case, Olsi Dado, had asked for a building permit and that Veliaj had rejected this request. (READ HERE)

But to this day, for more than 70 days, Veliaj and his supporters have not released this document. Not only because he publicly articulated that he was being held in prison without charges, while for several months the charges have been filed against him, he is in court and he endlessly postpones the development of court hearings. But also because it was a political arrest, a political dismissal. Positions, which are easily read by public opinion.

What is the political arrest of Erion Veliaj?

Erion Veliaj was arrested by court order after an in-depth investigation by prosecutors. He wanted to remain in office, but in fact the prosecutors showed that he was tampering with evidence and therefore a stronger security measure was requested. He was not the same as the other accused persons.

It's quite simple: When he destroys evidence, he goes to jail. Without talking about his behavior, the positions he held, the attacks, the accusations, etc. He was arrested by SPAK. (READ HERE)

Is SPAK a political institution?

It was Erion Veliaj himself who voted for this institution in 2016. So, he was part of the vote on the justice reform with 140 deputies. A vote that had not happened in decades in the Albanian Parliament. All parties together, including Erion Veliaj, voted for the establishment of new justice institutions. And SPAK was one of them, which received Erion Veliaj's vote.

Many of the justice structures, without any doubt, as the journalist of the Veliaj family, Mero Baze, says, are controlled by socialists or are hardened socialists, people of Fatmir Xhafaj, former officials of Edi Rama, or others, from the debates for the Constitutional Court, for the KLGJ, for the KLP, various prosecutors, who are known for their strong ties with socialists, to other justice institutions. In the courts, where the most problematic for Erion Veliaj is the GJKKO. Although the seal has been put by the Supreme Court, where we were told that the judicial body had hardened socialists and communists within it.

If we look further, it turns out that all these levels of courts, no matter how biased they are, have given their decisions. The prosecutors turned out to be accused and moreover were criminally exposed, making them attacks, slander, insults, accusations of the most diverse, the most perverse. And not only that, judges of all levels in the GJKKO were attacked.

Erion Veliaj has already gone to the Constitutional Court and issued a proclamation that his dismissal and arrest are political.

In fact, his arrest is not political. His arrest is for 13 charges, while there is another file that is being investigated, which includes funds circulated by his brother, who is also the main payer of law firms or lobbyists.

Erion Veliaj was dismissed from the Council of Ministers upon the proposal of the Municipal Council. The President announced the date of elections in Tirana, which were contested by Veliaj himself.

And now the decision of the Constitutional Court is awaited, which in fact does not consider whether the arrest is legal or illegal. This is definitely legal. But it considers the date of the President's decree, whether it was legal or not.

This is a matter that belongs to the members of the Constitutional Court. Various experts say that it is an administrative matter. Veliaj will go to court himself and will be there in front of him and we will see what happens.

The strategy is clear.

The former Mayor of Tirana is seeking to file a lawsuit claiming that he was politically dismissed or politically arrested in order to move on to Strasbourg as mayor of Tirana. This is to give him a precedent, so as to gain as much time as possible in Strasbourg.

Let's analyze political dismissal or political arrest.

SPAK arrested him, Edi Rama did not arrest him. Now, the opposition claims that SPAK is controlled by Edi Rama. Edi Rama claims that SPAK has prosecutors who have exceeded the law. Moreover, at the time of his arrest, that is, Veliaj, Prime Minister Rama was quite harsh and he strongly attacked the Special Structure and the prosecutors. Not only him, but also many senior officials of the Socialist Party almost lost their temper. Fatmir Xhafaj had done it before, when the directors of 5D were arrested. (READ HERE)

Meanwhile, Ilir Meta, former president, former prime minister and chairman of the Freedom Party, founder of the LSI, has been detained in SPAK for more than a year. Meta also has the same claim, that SPAK is controlled by Edi Rama. Sali Berisha, former prime minister and former president of the country, also has the same claim, who accuses prosecutors, judges, the head of SPAK, and the new justice structures of being captured by Edi Rama.

Now Erion Veliaj himself comes out and says that it is a political dismissal and political arrest made with the intention of removing him from office.

But who did it? According to Meta and Berisha, SPAK is owned by Edi Rama. Yes, and they are accused in SPAK. In addition to them, dozens of socialist officials have been accused in SPAK, including former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj. Now, recently, the news has been given that Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku is also under investigation.

So, dozens of socialists, mayors, ministers like Mr. Beqaj, or other officials, were put in prison by Edi Rama, according to the opposition. So, Rama takes his people and puts them in. Erion Veliaj also tells us this, that his dismissal is political.

So, if someone from SPAK had brought him in, it would have been Edi Rama, who was attacking SPAK. But he is the one who carried out the justice reform with his own will and as he has publicly stated, without Edi Rama and without the will of the socialists, the justice reform would not have been carried out and SPAK and the fight against corruption at these levels would not have existed.

Now, either the justice system arrested him with accusations, evidence and facts, or it was Edi Rama who did it politically. The opposition cannot arrest him, since he himself is in handcuffs and facing charges at SPAK.

Moreover, to be truthful to the end, Erion Veliaj will have to tell us now, why should Edi Rama be arrested when there were elections ahead? Why should Rama be arrested when he actually defended him?

He took him from the 99-year-olds of the "Mjafti" streets, who were fighting against the socialists, and made him the mayor of the largest municipality in the country and the main contender for heir to his seat as chairman of the Socialist Party. There are many unknowns here.

For the conspiracists, Rama kills everyone who wants to take his seat. In fact, without Edi Rama, Erion Veliaj was a "flea" in the Socialist Party.

Further, we simply need to see how Veliaj's articulation, which calls everything political, will be made by his party, by his party leader, by his prime minister, and by the very vote he has given to carry out a justice reform.

Erion Veliaj's arrest cannot be political, because the opposition or his opponents in power could not have done it, but it is his party and a reform in force that he himself signed and sealed, for whom he has shown us that he had at least those from SPAK under control, his "colleagues", as he ironically called them.

We are faced with many facts, many pieces of evidence, lies, deceptions, and a public articulation that seeks to victimize us with a man with 13 charges.

But, if Erion Veliaj considers his arrest political, why doesn't he go to court to face it? Why has he been endlessly postponing his judicial process for weeks and months? Why doesn't he go to face the prosecutors? Why does he find a way out on the street?

Now we are also getting theses that the arrest or dismissal is political.

The Socialist Party made him mayor, the Socialist Party elected him. That when he was alone with his 99-member party, he received as many votes throughout Albania as a simple councilor in Tirana received. Therefore, the theses with political dismissals and arrests are simply and only a struggle and movement with the hope that something can change in another court, namely in Strasbourg, where Erion Veliaj will claim that his rights have been violated.

This will be shown by justice, not only that of Albania, but also of Strasbourg, where even if Mr. Veliaj goes, he cannot demand his release. He will not seek to refute the facts and evidence that SPAK has provided him. But he will grab hold of every hair, to find any violation of human rights. There have been no such cases and moreover, Erion Veliaj is now, with these movements, simply and only, as we emphasized above, taking action. He is taking action that is trying to take something from these legal procedures and technicalities and shout for "victory".

In fact, the real victory he must go and seek in the court session, go to face the prosecutors, go to face the court, present his evidence and facts and prove his innocence. This is the real battle that Erion Veliaj must fight.

As for these nonsense about dismissals, political arrests, and justice controlled by the political opponent who doesn't exist, in the end we have these sentences from him: He was arrested by the leader of his party and dismissed by the leader of his party. This thesis has also been used by journalists paid by his people and many charlatans and media scoundrels.

But Erion Veliaj is not in prison because Edi Rama wanted him, nor because Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta wanted him. The latter two could have sought and "shot" him, but we live in 2025. And there is no way those crimes will happen again like they used to.

But Erion Veliaj is in prison because he broke the law, because of the facts and evidence collected by prosecutors with a strong, super professional investigation, which now has the moment to confront the former mayor of Tirana, who is not doing this, but is trying to spin like a "horse in a haystack", hoping that in the end he will succeed in Strasbourg./ CNA
