Rama 'hits the ball' at Veliaj and Mero Baze

Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the Socialist Assembly, did not leave unsaid the people who have taken up the sword and attacked SPAK with deception and intrigue since the arrest of Erion Veliaj.

Rama had two positions on justice, initially he criticized the prosecutors and judges who issued the government's decisions during the operation to liberate public spaces.

"The power of justice still maintains in its ranks, up and down Albania, prosecutors and judges, not a little short-sighted, narrow-minded and sometimes with a blatant lack of integrity, who turn white into black, while the independent governance of the system reacts as if it were asleep. The recent case, where some such prosecutors and judges have run counter to the public interest with frightening blindness and brutality by siding with the occupiers of public space, is emblematic. And when you see how individuals who are paid by our taxes, sometimes more than teachers or doctors and nurses, use their independence to treacherously attack the interests of the state and the families of an entire residential neighborhood, you are terrified by the reappearance of the old justice with a new face," Rama emphasized.

Responding to critical voices within the Socialist Party for defending Erion Veliaj, Rama said: "We, the Socialist Party, have never entered into any case and for any reason on the merits of a matter of justice, especially when justice has not yet fully spoken its word. We have never done this and we will never do it, by becoming the lawyer of anyone among the people of this large political family who is investigated or banned by justice, even when it may not seem fair to us. We have not had and will not have, at least as long as I will be at the head of this large family, any regrets about the freedom and independence that we have given to justice with the justice reform and, above all, with the historic withdrawal of majority power from the field of judicial power.

"Through the reform, we have consciously removed the hands of the executive from any process of selection, election, promotion or dismissal of prosecutors and judges, and also from any form of control over their activity," the Prime Minister emphasized.

The head of government further emphasized: "Great strategic patience is needed to give time time, with the conviction that democratic institutions do not grow faster than children, in fact they grow much later than children. Foresight is needed to not take any step back in relation to justice and its independence, because every such step today would have as a consequence tomorrow, who knows how many more steps away from the European justice of the next generation."

"I am often asked by friends here, how can we tolerate the injustices of the justice system without leaving two stones unturned when they fall on someone with whom we have shared good and bad days in the common trench? How can we, even when the injustice in the handling of a case seems blatant, sometimes thicker than the thread of justice, still have to endure? I know that my answer does not seem like an answer to many here, even though they pretend to agree with it on the surface, but I cannot find an easier answer," said Rama.

In the end, the prime minister and leader of the Socialist Party kicked Erion Veliaj, Mero Baze and the media that attack SPAK and GJKKO, saying that the socialists have no opportunity and, above all, no right to turn the common trench into a refuge to take anyone under protection, nor to bring out our artillery against SPAK or GJKKO .

"In my opinion, precisely because we have entered not by force, but willingly, into this common trench of politics with the flag of the Socialist Party and have chosen to work for the Albania of tomorrow, we have no opportunity and, above all, no right, to turn the common trench into a refuge to take anyone under our protection, nor to bring out our artillery against SPAK or GJKKO. And yes, including cases when, in our opinion, an injustice is being done to someone," emphasized Edi Rama, being direct and clear in his stance.

For several months, a campaign of attacks, accusations, slander and fraud has been launched against SPAK and GJKKO by media controlled and paid for by the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, and his family.

The campaign of attacks and deceptions from which Rama has clearly distanced himself by giving not only a kick, but also a punch to the face to Erion Veliaj with the request for his dismissal and all the Mero Bazes of the Albanian media who have defended the destruction of Tirana./CNA
