Erion Veliaj, the mayor of Tirana, who is in the cells of Durrës prison, yesterday made a long reaction where between the lines he writes that he has been subjected to a 21-year vetting since 2004.

Here is the text by Erion Veliaj . ( READ )

At first glance, you think that SPAK has vetted the mayor of Tirana, a vetting like those done to judges and prosecutors that Ols Dado has passed, that Altin Dumani has passed, that dozens of prosecutors and judges have passed, a vetting like the one that brought down hundreds of others, a vetting that started with shoes, went to a wristwatch, to socks, to clothing, to home furniture, to a balcony extension, to a washing machine, to a refrigerator. Many prosecutors and judges have fled their posts, for ridiculous amounts of money.

What is vetting?

“Vetting is the process of conducting a background check on someone before offering them employment, awarding them an award, or verifying facts before making any decisions. Additionally, in intelligence gathering, assets are verified to determine their usefulness.”

Simply vetting is going into detail about a long history of how someone lived, the conditions they lived in, the expenses they incurred, and everything else they went through in 20 years of their life.

But has he become this Erion Veliaj?

The truth is, neither Ols Dado nor Altin Dumani vetted Erion Veliaj.

They haven't done so because it's enough to look at the charges brought against the mayor, his wife, and his associates, and nowhere do you see that any vetting has been done for the expenses Erion Veliaj had, for travel, for example.

It turns out, according to Ermal Abule's statements, that he was in Japan with the latter together with his wife, expenses that were not declared anywhere and SPAK has not investigated what this income is.

In order to vet, they have to check Erion Veliaj's vacations.

Where did he spend his vacations? How much did they cost? And it doesn't seem to be in the mayor's declarations in the asset declaration where he made them? In Turkey, in Italy, in Spain or wherever he was and how much did they cost and if you add them up, they are not a few, they are thousands and thousands of euros.

It is enough to see the vacations and trips and understand that a vetting had begun, but this has not happened. What other income does Erion Veliaj have, that goes to family expenses, for kindergartens, for school, for the car?

What is their source, beyond Ajola's income through "Merimangë", the NGOs?

This would be to vet Erion Veliaj.

How much did the furnishing of the house cost? An apartment that was actually almost a three-story villa, hundreds of thousands of euros, no lek or what? These are also undeclared. How much did the furnishing of Ajola's offices cost? Because both are subject to asset declaration.

This is vetting Erion Veliaj.

Altin Dumani and Ols Dado have not vetted Erion Veliaj

Perhaps now is the time for a real asset vetting by September 24, as the lawyers for the mayor of Tirana have requested, like the one done to judges and prosecutors, like the vetting that brought about the justice reform that Erion Veliaj voted for and requested.

Prosecutors, after Erion Veliaj's statements yesterday that he has been vetted for 21 years, have a legal duty to vet him in the investigative file they have.

Let them then see how Erion Veliaj's real vetting turns out, because if you look at the file and read it, there is no vetting in any phrase, in any point, in any comma, but there are investigations into the connection of facts, connections with businesses, with associates, benefits, and others.

Nowhere can you find a single line that a vetting process has been done to put everything through a scanner, because maybe like Ajola Xoxa has 850 thousand euros in purchases, we don't know how much Erioni has with the salary of the mayor.

If Erion Veliaj is "vetted" by A to Zh, perhaps what the investigative files have is a drop in the ocean.

So Ols Dado, so Altin Dumani, they should vet Erion Veliaj, to show us that they are truly prosecutors with integrity and have not supported and helped Erion Veliaj.

Beyond the attacks made by the Mayor of Tirana, beyond the attacks made by his media, beyond the attacks they have on SPAK, the prosecutors must really show us that they vetted Erion Veliaj and did not tolerate him or, as up and down, it can be accused that this is a tolerance, a violation of the law by the prosecutors.

Why don't they vet him? Why don't they do a full assets investigation?

Without even talking about investigating it as a structured criminal group, as Appeals Judge Engert Pëllumbi wrote in his decision.

Let alone this guy who claims that he was vetted, that nothing was done to him, be properly investigated for the incinerator that does not exist in the capital.

This is the truth about Erion Veliaj's vetting./ CNA
