Fire at the market in the "5 Maji" neighborhood/ Cara: There are gas

The Director General of the Fire Department, Arben Cara, spoke about the massive fire that engulfed warehouses at the used clothing market in the "5 Maji" neighborhood in Tirana.

Cara said that inside the warehouses that were engulfed in fire there were gas cylinders that were being traded. He also spoke about the causes that started the fire.

"I can say that in the warehouse where we are fighting the flames today, there are gas cylinders that are being traded, which put the lives of the employees at risk. Of course, a heating system was used, in all ways, and this could be one of the causes that started the fire ," said Cara.

He further stated that it has been possible to isolate the fire within the perimeter, while adding that work is being done to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent buildings.

"We have managed to isolate the fire within the parameters. We are not saying that we have the fire under control, but we will not allow it to penetrate the warehouses and adjacent buildings. But there is still a lot of work to be done, as the fire is large. The fire, according to the preliminary reports we received in the operational room, number 128, and the firefighters who arrived first, occurred in the central part of the warehouses. It remains to be seen and investigated by the competent authorities as well as the Fire Protection and Rescue Inspectorate to come to an accurate conclusion on how the fire started ," said Cara. /CNA
