NOTICE

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul visited Albania as part of a trip to the 6 Western Balkan countries. He discussed the path to the EU with Foreign Minister Spiropali and SPAK leader Dumani.

The Western Balkans are a priority for Germany, and we strongly support its path towards the EU. The dynamics in Albania are extraordinary; recently, perhaps no other country in the region has made such progress. Germany appreciates the great commitment that many Albanians and Albanians are making, both in politics, administration and civil society, to implement real reforms.

It is clear that there can be no shortcuts to these reforms. But if Albania consistently follows this path and intensifies its efforts, the chances of achieving success soon are great. Further reforms must be adopted and implemented in a sustained manner, especially in the areas of the rule of law, media freedom, and the fight against corruption and organized crime.

An independent and effective judiciary is the core of any democratic and free society. With SPAK, Albania has a strong institution that is making concrete progress in investigating and fighting corruption. Society and the economy can only thrive when opportunities are distributed fairly and there is trust in independent institutions./CNA
