The head of the Municipality of Malësi e Madhe, Tonin Marinaj, has twice deceived the Central Election Commission regarding the self-declaration form.

This is clearly seen in the answers he gave in the two self-declaration forms for the local elections of 2019 and 2023, which denied that he was under investigation or trial by a foreign authority for any criminal offense.

In 2016, during the investigations carried out 8 years ago, the Prosecutor's Office of Florence accused the socialist mayor of having founded, incited and directed an organization of international proportions, based mainly in Tuscany, Venice, Udine and in Albania, for the trafficking of marijuana . Prosecutor Giulio Monferini investigated for at least 6 years and on March 29, 2016 he brought charges against 8 people for a criminal organization with international dimensions for trafficking in narcotics, marijuana, including Tonin Marinaj. (read here)

According to the Florence Prosecutor's Office, Marinaj was the head of the criminal gang, which produced marijuana in Albania and then sent it to Italy, from where it was distributed wholesale and retail. The investigative file contains wiretaps as well as photos of the accused persons and drug quantities. In two of the photos, the Italian prosecutors point out that it is Tonin Marinaj as he meets with the members of the criminal gang. (read here)

The first scam

The Prosecutor's Office of Florence filed charges against Marinaj in March 2016 and submitted the investigation file to the Court of Florence.

3 years later, Marinaj for the local elections of June 30, 2019, did not admit in the self-declaration form that he was under investigation or trial by a foreign authority for any criminal offense.
