The Minister of Health, Albana Koçiu, has announced through a post on social networks that in the wake of new mini-invasive techniques, MidCABG intervention (aorto-coronary bypass) was performed at QSUT, on a 73-year-old patient, who had critical narrowing of the left coronary artery.

According to her, the operation was performed without the use of extracorporeal circulation, keeping the heart working all the time and without opening the chest in the front.

Minister Koçiu's reaction:

In the wake of new mini-invasive techniques, MidCABG intervention (aorto-coronary bypass) was performed at QSUT. This procedure was performed on a 73-year-old patient with serious kidney problems and diabetes who had critical narrowing of the left coronary artery.

Due to the accompanying pathologies, the operation was performed without the use of extracorporeal circulation, keeping the heart working all the time and without opening the chest in the front.

This intervention, known as MidCABG, was performed with an alternative incision, left mini-thoracotomy, with a minimum opening of 6-7 cm in the fourth interosseous space, allowing a rapid recovery of the patient and his immediate extubation . Minimal trauma means the patient is quickly transitioned to the ward and discharged in half the usual time, reducing costs and length of stay.

This new procedure is added to the spectrum of mini-invasive interventions that are routinely performed in the Cardiac Surgery Service at QSUT.
Kind regards from the team of doctors and nurses: Prof. Assoc. Altin Veshti, Dr. Arber Aliu, Dr. Fjoralba Qejvani, Dr. Ervin Bejko, Esmerilda Bulku, Jonela Burimi as well as nurses Majlinda Elezi and Nerenza Elezi. A special thanks to Dr. Stak Dushaj from the Zurich University Center in Switzerland for his continuous support./CNA
