Today, the 23rd protest is expected to take place in front of the Municipality of Tirana, where the citizens will again demand the resignation of the mayor Erion Veliaj.

The citizens will challenge the high temperatures again and, like every week, they will call for Veliaj's resignation. 

The protest is organized by the Alliance for the Protection of the Theatre, where representatives from the DP will be present as well as well-known art figures. 

The protests in front of this municipality are taking place because of the scandals that happened in this institution, such as the incinerator affair and the "5D" file, where a number of directors were arrested after SPAK investigations. The citizens insistently demand that Veliaj be brought to justice.

Even Veliaj himself was questioned by SPAK about the incinerator affair, while the court issued other security measures a few weeks ago. 

Meanwhile, the investigations about the incinerators continue, the first group has gone to SPAK, there are two more groups. Initially, they were accused of corruption, but now the accused of the structured criminal group for an affair of around 130 million euros, for an incinerator that does not exist, weighs on the persons involved.

Tensions and clashes with the police have not been missing in recent protests, as protesters have tried to get inside the town hall building.

Flares and gasoline bottles were also thrown, as well as tires were burned. Members of the opposition in the Municipal Council of Tirana have not been allowed to enter the institution of the municipality.

However, citizens have warned that the protests will not stop./CNA
