Last Friday's protest in front of the Municipality of Tirana, where the resignation of Erion Veliaj was demanded, was a manifestation of the anger of the citizens, who rightly raised their voices against the "5D" theft mega-affair in the municipality.

The reaction of the internationals, the headquarters of the embassies attached to Tirana was immediate. In their reactions, almost in unison, they condemned the violence of the protesters, against the railings of the municipality.

At the same time, these same ambassadors failed to see the police reprisal developed "post" the protest, where the protesters were kidnapped from the streets or in their homes, being held in the Police Station in an illegal manner.

One of the ambassadors who reacted to the "violence" in front of the town hall was the British ambassador, Alastair King-Smith.

REACTION

"The scenes outside Tirana City Hall today and the use of Molotov cocktails have no place in democracy. The British Embassy condemns the use of violence and acts of intimidation.

The United Kingdom continues to demand that all disputes and conflicts be resolved through democratic processes, without violence, and that the rule of law must be respected."

The reaction of the British embassy was received negatively by the media, journalists and intellectuals of the country, who had harsh reactions to what they described as taking the leader of the "5D" gang under protection.

This apparently caused Ambassador Alastair King-Smith to reflect on today's publication of the Leadership Academy's activity, where he took care to hide Erion Veliaj from the photos and text posted on the official website of the British embassy.

The reaction of the media and civil society has made the ambassador not to repeat the same mistake twice, denying the existence of Veliaj in the activity.

Today's post:

"Last week, British Ambassador Alastair King-Smith in the closing speech of the Program on Strategic Leadership course in Tirana. The course was challenging, with several long days, but the contribution of the delegates has been outstanding. There have been many opportunities for exchange ideas and perspectives among audience members. It was a pleasure to have delegates from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and North Macedonia bring their regional perspectives, important to such an interactive region."
