The government is leaving women without children, the system is not working

While births in Albania are constantly falling, the government, instead of encouraging them, is hindering with bureaucracy even those women who are expecting a baby, or who have just become parents.

Businesses are complaining that for several days they have been unable to apply for their employees' maternity leave reports.

The system that operates through E-Albania creates problems with applications for maternity reports or other short-term benefits.

This situation is causing delays in the payment of reports for new mothers or employees who benefit from the social security scheme. It also prevents the receipt of reports from people who are absent from work due to health problems.

Although the transition of many services online was made with the intention of facilitating businesses, they are turning into a nightmare for them. In July last year, for many days, online submission of balance sheets to the National Business Center was impossible. In January of this year, businesses could not reconcile invoices in the self-care system, self-employed individuals could not issue invoices, and import invoices were not even fiscalized.

This week, many businesses with passive activity status complained that they have received a notification from the General Directorate of Local Taxes and Tariffs regarding the calculations of obligations to pay for 2025.

But due to the lack of unification of the systems, another problem arose earlier this week. Specifically, businesses that have credit surpluses from the "Profit Tax" for 2024 are not able to use them to offset their 2025 obligations.

This comes after, with the legal change in the "Corporate Income Tax", the surpluses have remained in the old account and have not been transferred to the new system (e-filing). As a result, businesses face unnecessary payments and an increase in the administrative burden./Monitor
