Korça Prefecture Operation/Journalists Rebel

The Prefect of Korça District, Florinda Zegullaj, conducted an action this Thursday in the Lumalasi area, along the national axis, where cases of street vending were observed.

The responsible institutional structures were also present on the ground, intervening to remove the traders and restore order in this segment.

In fact, this national axis endangers the lives of traders, but what the prefecture and other instances should do is find a concrete solution for them, whether by creating a market or any other alternative so that the "bread of mouth" for families who earn income from the sale of agricultural products is not affected.

However, contrary to the transparency practices expected in such cases, Korça media outlets were not notified of this action. Journalists have demanded an explanation regarding the lack of information and the inability to closely follow developments on the ground.

In response, Prefect Florinda Zegullaj clarified that such interventions are part of the daily institutional work and do not constitute a separate action that requires prior notification to the media. According to her, these are routine actions within the framework of guaranteeing order and security.

But this stance raises questions about transparency and the relationship with the media. Although they may be considered "routine interventions", the fact that they involve on-the-ground actions with a direct impact on citizens and small businesses makes them of public interest, which requires information and access for journalists.

The lack of notification is seen as a limitation of the media's right to report in real time and to give the public a full picture of the situation. Journalists in Korça, through their reactions to the prefecture's media group, have raised concerns about the case in question. Journalists cannot be considered mere "spectators" invited only to planned activities, but partners in informing citizens in any case of public interest.

On the other hand, Zegullaj has left open the possibility of a more structured communication in the future, announcing a dedicated briefing for the media during the coming week, where further measures and steps are expected to be presented. However, it remains important for the media that transparency is not selective, but continuous, especially in actions that directly affect the community./CNA
