Rama in "Le Point": Albania unafraid of Iran and firmly on the side of

The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, has given an interview to "Le Point", where he addressed key issues of foreign policy and the country's role in the international arena.

Speaking about relations with Iran, Rama stressed that Albania maintains a firm stance and is in line with the policy of the United States of America. He recalled that official Tirana does not have diplomatic relations with Tehran and that the country has accepted members of the Iranian opposition into its territory.

The head of government stated that Albanians are not afraid of threats, linking this stance to the country's history and the protection of Jews during World War II.

"You should never ask Albanians if they are afraid. We are not afraid. Albania protected Jews during World War II, and the same philosophy guides us today. We should talk to everyone, except terrorists like the regime in Iran," he declared.

In the interview, he underlined the importance of Albania's membership in NATO, as a security guarantee, as well as the strategic goal of becoming part of the European Union.

"My country has historical experience from communist dictatorship that makes it understandable the need for strong stances against external aggression," he said.

Rama also spoke about diplomatic balance, supporting international dialogue, but remaining clear in support of Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We cannot give up our role, but we must talk to everyone and respect our history and principles," Rama said.

Regarding investments, he rejected claims for privatization of Sazan Island, describing the project as a tourist and environmental development, in collaboration with well-known names such as Jean Nouvel.

In the field of defense, Rama announced that Albania will continue to be supplied with military equipment from various international partners, including the company "Thales Group".

"Albania has purchased the GM400 Alpha radar system from Thalès," writes "Le Point".

Commenting on domestic developments, he denied allegations of money laundering and stressed that the country operates on the basis of law and international standards.

According to "Le Point", Rama is presented as a leader with a strong international profile, clearly oriented towards the West, while political developments in the country are considered part of an active democracy./ CNA
