Judges and Prosecutors of Albania: The referendum process in Italy proved that

The National Association of Judges and Prosecutors of Albania have issued a joint statement on the referendum held a few days ago in Italy. In this referendum, the justice system secured a resounding victory against the changes proposed by the country's Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni.

Meanwhile, the statement states that the result of this referendum showed clear support for the guarantor power of the rule of law, which according to the associations is only ensured by a justice system that possesses the necessary space to function efficiently and independently.

Among other things, it is emphasized that the referendum process in Italy proved once again that the independence of the justice system as a whole remains the cornerstone of any functional democratic system.

JOINT DECLARATION OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF JUDGES OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA AND THE ASSOCIATION OF PROSECUTORS OF THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA

The National Association of Judges of the Republic of Albania and the Association of Prosecutors of the Republic of Albania have followed with great interest the referendum process in the Republic of Italy, regarding the proposed constitutional changes in the justice system. Following the conclusion of the process and the officialization of the result, we express our appreciation and congratulations to the National Association of Magistrates of the Republic of Italy, which, through its active role and professional engagement, contributed to fostering an open debate for the protection of constitutional principles and values.

The result of this referendum showed clear support for the guarantor power of the rule of law, which is only ensured by a justice system that possesses the necessary space to function efficiently and independently. The Italian judiciary has always shown maturity in its confrontations and challenges, which are no less difficult.

It, perhaps more than any other system in Europe, has deserved the independence it enjoys today, above all, for the martyrs it has given to the cause of establishing justice and the triumph of legality. The commitment of the National Association of Magistrates of the Italian Republic demonstrated that a justice system conscious of its mission participates actively and responsibly in democratic life, defending the values ??on which justice is built.

Such a commitment simultaneously strengthens the connection between the justice system and citizens, guaranteeing accountability and building public trust in justice institutions. In our country too, it is the duty of the justice system bodies and of each magistrate in particular to increase the trust of citizens, as well as the responsibility of citizens to provide due trust to the justice institutions, which exist to serve them, protecting constitutional rights and freedoms from any excesses by other powers. The justice system, with all the problems that may arise in its direction, constitutes the oxygen of the fundamental freedoms of citizens.

The referendum process in Italy proved once again that the independence of the justice system as a whole remains the cornerstone of any functional democratic system. In this context, our associations remain determined and maximally committed to realizing this fundamental mission of guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law and the separation of powers, taking the best experiences from homologous associations in neighboring countries. / CNA
