EU Commissioner Marta Kos: SPAK has done excellent work in the fight against

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, spoke today about the current situation in Albania and its progress in the integration process.

In an interview, Kos said that regarding integration, Albania has done an excellent job.

Among other things, the commissioner also praised the work of the Special Prosecution Office, saying that they have also done an excellent job in the fight against corruption and added that it is normal for them to investigate high-ranking officials.

"Albania has done an excellent job. So, we are now in the process, by member states, of going through intermediate standards for the rule of law, and it looks good. But of course there are some cases, and you mentioned the Balluk case, which we are monitoring really well. SPAK, the anti-corruption agency in Albania, is doing an excellent job, and it is somewhat normal that then they find cases. So, the important thing is that if those cases are there, what are the reactions to them? And we monitor this as well," Kos said.

The Commissioner further said that something typical for candidate countries is that they may have the best legislation for fighting corruption, but it is a problem if this phenomenon is accepted in the country.

"Another issue with anti-corruption, which I would say is typical for all candidate countries, you know, you can have the best legislation to fight corruption, but if corruption is accepted in the country, then you have another problem. So, all those countries are going through this process of changing the mentality towards corruption, and that takes some time ," the commissioner said. /CNA
