Life threatened/ Lawyer: The passivity of law enforcement institutions is

Lawyer and activist Adriana Kalaja spoke today about the death threats against her.

Invited to Syri TV, Kalaja said that what worries her most in this situation is not the threat but the passivity of law enforcement institutions.

She said that she has been threatened several times and that she has taken the case to the State Police and that her file has been delegated to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office.

"On February 19, I received a death threat. Since I am part of the justice system, I understand very well who is a real threat and who is something to pass the time. Especially since, from the work I have been doing for years, related to denunciations against this mafia and criminal power, I have received threats of the most diverse kinds, whether with a hidden or open tendency. What worried me was the fact that the threat, besides being very serious, also had a mafia code, as you saw.

There is also a message earlier that says: "You don't know that you are unwittingly working for me." Meanwhile, a denunciation that I make about a person benefits the person behind this page. What really worries me is not the threat, but the passivity of law enforcement institutions.

The next morning, on February 20, I went to the Tirana Police and the leaders themselves, after reading the messages, clearly understood and told me that this was an open threat to my life. They told me that it was blackmail to keep my mouth shut and that they would ask the Tirana Prosecutor's Office to provide me with protection. When I reported the data to the Cybercrime Directorate, the people there, who received me correctly, told me that the matter would be resolved within two or three days: first, the person had to be identified and, most importantly, who was hiding behind him.

After a few days, the judicial police officers at the Tirana Directorate confirmed to me that the file had been delegated to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and gave me the relevant number. Throughout this period, I have been interested in the Tirana Prosecutor's Office and I have no information about what has been done with this matter.

Until last week, the Tirana Prosecutor's Office confirmed to me that no draw had been made. So, I don't know which prosecutor has the case, so that I can at least be interested in a threat to my life. Apparently they expected me to stop my fight. The person doesn't tell me that I'm going to God, but says to me: "Are you going on vacation or are you going to meet God?", giving me an alternative in exchange for keeping my mouth shut," said the lawyer.

Kalaja further states that he has not yet received a response from these two institutions as to who is behind the threats.

"On March 7, I made a public complaint on my Facebook page. After that, I received a second threat, this time openly. The person, seeing that nothing happened after February 19, sent me other threatening messages. I took a screenshot and saw that the page was still active. I sent it again to the Cybercrime Directorate, but this time they told me to block the page, just to be on the safe side.

Today, March 26, I have no information from either the State Police or the Tirana Prosecutor's Office about this individual and who is behind him. The situation is even more aggravated, since in my statement I mentioned several suspects, including a judge who, in my opinion, is connected to the crime and is capable of doing anything.

"Regardless of whether this suspicion is true or not, the question remains: how can the State Police and the Tirana Prosecution be so passive? What prevents them from revealing who is hiding behind that page? People have been arrested for even minimal things for Prime Minister Rama, while there is no reaction to a direct threat to life," says Kalaja. /CNA
