"Peza dismisses journalists en masse" Zhupa: It will make RTSH a

The deputy of the Democratic Party, Ina Zhupa, in a statement to the media, said that the director of RTSH, Alfred Peza, is dismissing journalists and staff to turn it into a barracks that obeys his absurd orders.

Zhupa says that the climate created in RTSH with mass vacations, the employment of people who worked as subordinates of Peze in Alpen?s or Ora, people with family and social ties to him, make the situation even more dramatic.

Albania is declining in terms of the media freedom index and these events only worsen the situation, according to Zhupa.

Full statement:

"Since the illegal election at the head of RTSH, on behalf of the Democratic Party, I have denounced all legal violations for the custom appointment of Alfred Peza as director of RTSH. His position as an illegal director is also accompanied by illegal decisions to fire journalists and staff for no reason, just to turn it into a barracks that obeys his absurd orders.

The Union of Albanian Journalists considers such extreme decisions arbitrary and constituting a climate of tension, pressure and punishments for journalists, even more so in the conditions when in this institution there are no union representations and dialogue structures between administrators and professional entities or employees who leave. 

Ricardo Gutierrez, Secretary General of the European Federation of Journalists, EFJ, wrote on Twitter that these dismissals were "alarmed" about "arbitrary" dismissals.

The concern raised by BIRN, Safe Journalist, journalists' associations, the affected journalists themselves have our full support.

The climate created in RTSH with mass vacations, the employment of people who worked as subordinates of Peze in Alpeneës or Ora, people with family and social ties to him, make the situation even more dramatic. A television that is supported by the taxes of Albanians, is turning into a private television for the people of Peza, undermining journalism and professionalism. 

Drejtori që merret nga karriget, te skaleta e lajmeve, te festivali dhe te koshat e plehrave, qëvendos kamera përgjimi dhe numëron gotat e ujit, nuk është modeli i drejtorit profesonist që i përgjigjet nevojave për ta kthyer RTSH-në nënjë televizion të shikueshëm.

Në emër të Partisë Demokratike dhe opozitës i bëj thirrje Keshillit Drejtues, si organ që monitorohet nga Kuvendi, të rikthejë ligjshmërinë brenda RTSH, të ndalë shkarkimet e padrejta dhe të hapë garën për drejtor tëRTSH-së.

Gjithashtu, i bashkohemi thirrjes së Unionit të Gazetareve që OSBE të monitorojë situatën.

Shqipëria po vjen me rënie sa i perket indeksit të lirisë së medias dhe këto ngjarje vetëm e përkeqesojnë situatën dhe tregojnë qartëvullnetin politik për të shkaterruar median dhe për të kontrolluar çdo gjë politikisht."/ CNA
