Physical clash at the council meeting / The Municipality of Pogradec reacts

The Municipality of Pogradec has made an official response regarding the physical clash that occurred at the municipal council meeting.

The municipality's response states that the draft decision was approved with 20 votes in favor, guaranteeing that the pasture area is not affected.

The municipality says that during the approval of this draft decision, one of the residents of the village of Cërrave used offensive words towards the council members, which led to a physical confrontation.

The Municipality of Pogradec, through this reaction, clarifies public opinion on the draft decision related to the "Lease of state land areas in Çerava".

We inform you that:

The initial draft decision proposed and consulted with the residents of Çerava envisaged an area of ??65 hectares 8459 m2. During the five consultative meetings, the residents expressed their concerns and suggestions, which were taken into consideration by our institution.

The residents requested a revision of the area, removing from the map the areas with pasture status, which are used for the village's livestock. This request was accepted, and the area was reduced from 65 hectares 8459 m2 to 34 hectares 6660 m², an area that has orchard status. This revised version of the project was discussed again with representatives of the residents, with whom an agreement in principle was reached.

The draft decision, now with a reduced surface area and without affecting the pastures of the area, was reviewed by the Municipal Council Committees and then presented for approval at the next meeting of the Municipal Council, held yesterday.

The councilors, who had previously been familiar with the material and after detailed explanations from specialists in the field, who guaranteed that the new map does not affect pasture areas, approved the draft decision with 20 votes in favor.

We also clarify that representatives of the village of Çerravë were also present at the meeting, who followed the discussions and participated in them. During the debate, there were tense moments and the use of unethical and offensive language towards the members of the Municipal Council.

After the approval of the draft decision, one of the representatives present in the hall became tense and used offensive language, which led to the reaction of one of the Council members, a situation that escalated into a physical clash between the parties.

The incident has already been referred to law enforcement agencies, which will clarify the circumstances and relevant responsibilities.

In conclusion, the Municipality of Pogradec emphasizes that it has all the legal rights to protect land and the bylaws in its implementation on the administration of state lands in its territory and their lease to individuals or entities, with the aim of their development.

At the same time, the Municipality remains an institution open to dialogue and consultation with the community, listening and reflecting on the concerns of citizens, as was done with the residents of the village of Çerravë.
