Harassment and abuse against minors/ Alarming situation in Korça district
Maria Dojce

In the district of Korça, the situation remains alarming in terms of cases of sexual harassment. Children and teenagers have fallen prey to sexual harassment and abuse of this type by older people, leaving great consequences in their emotional and psychological state. During this year, 11 cases of sexual harassment were registered in the Southeast, where 4 of them were minors and 1 was an adult. According to the statistics provided by CNA, 10 people have been arrested, 3 are wanted and 2 others are still at large.

Sociologist Maria Dojçe reacted to this alarming situation, who stated that the increase in cases of sexual abuse shows a psychosocial disorientation where the main role in its prevention is played by the family and the school as the two key elements that are the basis of the foundation of values, principles and discipline.

"Based on the figures of recent cases, there is an increase in cases of sexual abuse or verbal violence, indecent gestures towards minors. It is a psychosocial disorientation where the family as the basic institution for the establishment of values ??and principles, must but also the school as a discipline institution should have increased vigilance, in-depth conversations with children, by teachers, parents, other family members, so communication should increase face to face with children and reduce as much time as possible on social networks."

Dojçe emphasizes that there are a number of factors that influence the creation of deviance even among adults, which degrade until the commission of this criminal offense. For the sociologist, there is a solution to the situation, but you need the will to ask for help and not fall prey to this type of harassment.

"As for the adults who fall prey to sexual harassment, it is a moral and instinctive degradation. These degradations that have frustrations inside, depend on the area where they grew up, how open they were to sexual relations with their partners, are a number of factors that lead to deviations. There are a number of preventive factors such as awareness, conversation, openness, counseling, meeting with a psychologist if we feel that something is wrong, we can turn to partners, ask for help and from doctors if there is an emotional load. In these cases there is a solution, but you need the will not to fall prey to abuses and to ask for help."

Referring to the recent case where two 14-year-old students were sexually harassed by their teacher in one of the 9-year-old schools in the city of Korça, Dojçe commented on the abusive teacher who submitted documents at the time of employment but could has shown signs of alcoholism after starting work. Sociology emphasizes that this event will leave serious consequences for minors which will be long-term and the psychologist must work hard to solve the situation.

"We have the filters, they exist from the moment we sign an employment contract. There are three basic documents in addition to the CV and professional qualifications, which are a certificate from the court and the prosecutor's office that you have not been convicted, a forensic certificate that you are fit for work, and a health certificate that is taken from the neighborhood doctor. I can't say that the teacher had problems, he may have appeared after he entered work and was fine when he submitted these documents. He is very drunk heavy, I would like them not to be victims of these abuses. This will leave a long-term mark, they will be afraid to enter into a concrete relationship at an adult age. They will have to work hard with school psychologists and counselors."

Referring to the government's discussions about closing social networks, Maria Dojçe says that people misuse them by promoting themselves and not by promoting business, as the goal of creating these networks. Among other things, she says that she is in favor of their closure.

"We have to consider why these social networks were created, when the people who created them did not take into account that users would fall prey to self-promotion. Social networks were created to promote businesses, so every social network on the market was created to promote products. Man misused this social network, we will not sell our lives. It is a mismanagement that we do to social networks difficult for 24/7 to control what the child sees on social networks. I am the one who should be closed."

The criminal offense of "sexual harassment" where minors and adults fall prey, has seen an increase in cases over the last few months in the southeast, where the majority of cases have been registered in the district of Maliqi. Institutions, according to sociologists, should come together to prevent cases as well as to take concrete measures in talks with minors, in cases where a change in their psychological state is noticed./ CNA
