At today's government meeting, the agreement for Albania's membership in the IUCN-International Union for the Protection of Nature was discussed, which will then be passed to the Assembly.

In her speech to the media, Minister Kumbaro stated that until today the National Agency of Protected Areas has been a member of this organization, but now it is about membership as a state that gives Albania full rights within this organization.

"For the first time, Albania becomes a member as a state that gives it fuller rights within the organization, but especially provides us with the exchange in the decision-making of this organization at the world level, as well as the opportunity to exchange better experiences in what we already we have set it as a priority: sustainable development in protection of the environment, the protection of Protected Areas and their return not only to ecosystem values, but especially to natural tourist destinations that provide us with an extension of the tourist season beyond the summer one, but also an extension in the territory", said the Minister of Tourism and Environment.

For Minister Kumbaro, this is a commitment at a higher level of the promises and work of the Albanian government in what has been considered since the first day of this third mandate, a priority: the environment and protected areas, emphasizing the work for the announcement of Vjosa National Park which is already in the second phase of work for the managed plan of the area.

At the end of her speech, Kumbaro said that all these promises go in parallel with Albania's commitments in the international plan for climate change, where on December 1 she will participate in COP28 in Dubai, where the leaders' summit for climate change is also held. / CNA
