Journalist: Albania's population is aging and its justice system is being rejuvenated

The escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran is also directly reflected in the Albanian tourism market. Unlike the massive cancellations reported in some European countries, in Albania the phenomenon is quieter but just as sensitive. Tour operators report that new reservations for Turkey have been frozen.
Travel agencies report that, although "early booking" offers for the summer season were active until the end of March, the pace of bookings has dropped significantly in recent days.
Packages are still on sale, promotional prices have not been withdrawn, but customers are hesitant to confirm. "We don't have a wave of cancellations, but we don't have any new bookings either," operators from Ilirida Travel and Tours say.
At the same time, families who booked in January and February are calling to inquire about whether the security situation could affect Turkey and, if the conflict escalates, whether they will be eligible for a refund.
These days, according to information received from the Zenith Travel and Hima Travel agencies, the most frequent question is no longer about the hotel or service, but about the money-back guarantee in the event of cancellation for security reasons.
If tensions persist, agencies could see demand shift towards destinations considered safer such as Spain, Italy or Greece.
Turkey has been the main choice of family holidays for Albanians for years. Destinations like Antalya, Bodrum or Belek have become standard products of summer packages, thanks to the combination of competitive prices, the “all inclusive” formula and direct flights from Tirana with charters. For many families, summer holidays abroad are synonymous with Turkey, especially for the segment with children.
According to previous market data, Turkey ranks among the best-selling destinations by Albanian agencies for the period June-September, with thousands of packages contracted each year. Early bird offers usually start in December-January and peak by the end of March, a period when a significant portion of the seasonal volume is traditionally secured.
Tourism experts say that risk perception has an immediate impact on consumer decision-making, even when the destination is not directly a conflict zone.
The geography of the region, news of military tensions, and airspace uncertainty are enough to push families to wait. In practice, this translates into a postponement of the decision, not necessarily a cancellation.
If the situation stabilizes in the coming weeks, operators expect bookings to resume at a faster pace, perhaps even shifting to the later months of the season. But if tensions persist, the current freeze could turn into a real decline in sales, forcing agencies to review contracts and pricing strategies.
In addition to Turkey, the uncertainty created by the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran may also affect other destinations that Albanians choose for vacations or 'city breaks' in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The United Arab Emirates, especially Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Egypt with its Red Sea resorts, as well as Jordan, are among the markets that will feel the effect of postponing decisions on new bookings, even when they are not conflict zones. /Monitor
