With the high tourist flows, the operators of the municipalities and the National Coastal Agency are working 24 hours a day in the coastal municipalities of Durrës and Kavajë to clean up waste, disinfect bins and wash the streets.

The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro, accompanied by the mayors of Durrës and Kavajë, Emirjana Sako and Fisnik Qosja, as well as the director of the National Coastal Agency, Ledion Lako, closely inspected the work on the ground, from where he gave orders to the restaurant businesses not to use the family bins for throwing waste, but to wait for the schedule when the cleaning operator goes to collect them.

"Businesses will have to find a solution to keep part of the waste they generate for part of the day. The principle of the Law on waste is: Whoever pollutes pays", said the Minister of Tourism and Environment.

From this inspection, Minister Kumbaro warned of penalties up to the termination of contracts for all entities that operate as a beach station in case of non-compliance with the conditions stipulated in the contract with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

"We started with breaking contracts. This is a measure that we are implementing this year, because we have included it in the Decisions of the Council of Ministers and we will be forced to apply it whenever there is no respect for the criteria that becomes mandatory, such as the presence of the observer", Minister Kumbaro continued.

Likewise, Minister Kumbaro made it clear that tourist operators who carry out activities with watercraft for tourism and entertainment purposes must be certified by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment to carry out these activities.

"The moment we and the Border Police started to stop the circulation of those vehicles of operators not equipped with a certificate, we have a flood of requests. We continue to wait for them, completing the documents is a non-negotiable condition. Any activity is possible, but respecting the rules and this applies to the sea, it applies to the lake, it applies to the river", concluded the minister.

At the end of the meeting, from Kavaja, Minister Kumbaro asked not to allow the businesses that exercise the activity of the beach station to occupy spaces that go outside the coordinates provided for in the contract with the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, as well as again emphasized the necessity of the presence of observers at the beach stations./ CNA
