Agreement/ Great Britain will pay Albania 4.6 million euros per year to receive

Great Britain will pay Albania at least 4.6 million euros a year to take the most dangerous Albanian prisoners into its prisons under the agreement ratified this week, The Telegraph reports .

Among the 200 transferred are 17 Albanians sentenced to life imprisonment, including Koci Selamaj, 36 years old, the killer of teacher Sabina Nessa, 28 years old. 

Selamaj has served two years so far, which means that Great Britain will pay the Albanians 470,000 euros to imprison him for the remaining 34 years of his sentence.

According to the agreement, the British government will give Albania another 5 million euros for logistics, security and training of guards.

Telegraph writes The British have asked for guarantees that the human rights of Albanian prisoners will be protected, while the Albanians have asked that they be paid before accepting the next group of criminals.

A task force will be set up to monitor and prevent ill-treatment of prisoners. According to the agreement, the Albanian government will compile annual reports on the state of the prisoners and their conditions, while the British government has the right to inspect the prisons. 

The British government argues that the removal of Albanian prisoners will help alleviate the overcrowding crisis in British prisons, but will also save British taxpayers money.
