The draft law for medical students/ Kushi: It is not unconstitutional, we need

The Minister of Education, Evis Kushi, has stated that the law, which limits newly graduated medical students to 5 years in withdrawing their diploma, is in accordance with the constitution.

During her speech in the Assembly, Kushi said that the law is a mechanism to meet the needs for doctors and specialists.

"I want to emphasize, the law is not unconstitutional. It does not force anyone, it gives students the opportunity to choose. The agreement is written by those who feel it, to work in Albania after graduation. The point is to support more those who stay in Albania. The law is not only not unconstitutional, the law is a mechanism for us to mention the constitutional obligation to meet the needs for doctors and specialists. To meet the needs for human resources.

The service that citizens receive today is many times better than what was done many years ago, but it is also true that we still have work to do. The phenomenon of doctors leaving is a reality not only for Albania but also for the region and EU countries. There are 1,200 doctors who graduated in Albania but work in EU or OECD health institutions. So it is 20%. For every 10 students who graduate, 2 of them leave," said Kushi./CNA.al
