"I was with Mehmet Shehu's son and Ngjela"/ Lubonja: Here's

Analyst Fatos Lubonja spoke today about the beginnings of the country's political transition and the events of the time.

Invited to the show 'Log.', Lubonja revealed that at the time he had been serving his sentence in Burrel prison, where he was later transferred due to the situation.

Lubonja shared details from the time of her sentence, which she served together with other well-known prisoners such as Mehmet Shehu's son and Spartak Ngjela.

"At that time, I was in Burrel prison, from 1987 onwards. Suddenly, when these events occur, something happens that was a bit unexpected for us. A transfer of Burrel prison comes and goes, just as it came to us as an event, the thesis was that Pérez de Cuéllar would come to Burrel prison because he had received signals from the American diaspora that he could come.

In a very quick manner, a transfer was made to the camps of some of the Burrel prisoners, some were taken to the camps, a kind of mitigation of punishment, while we who were a part... I was in the middle, where these former party leaders, former ministers, were called traitors.

I was in Mehmet Shehu's prison, with Spartak Ngjela. Mesi and some of the prisoners who were considered more dangerous were not transferred, but they took us, put us in trucks and took us to Greater Kosovo, between Lushnja and Elbasan, where the women's prison used to be, and they had him transferred very quickly to a prison like the one in Burrel.

Not like camps, but you stayed there 22/24 hours a day, it was a prison regime, not a labor camp, you stayed in cells. They put us on two floors. It was a signal that the regime was releasing us from there, but if it had intended to release us, it would not have made these transformations. The transfer was made because of him and according to the information we received later.

The embassy event was in Greater Kosovo. We had TV, we read newspapers, a newspaper came to Burrel that circulated, it was read. We were very torn between a hope that something was happening and a great fear, that in the Burrel prison you would be executed, there was this fear that they would take us and annihilate us on some riverbank. I remember the embassy event and I don't remember, I saw the rally on TV. We also read something in the newspaper, then the speeches, Ramiz Alia, the meetings with intellectuals", - Lubonja said./CNA
