The facades of buildings in Tirana are outside technical standards and are therefore at risk of burning. This warning was expressed by the Association of Surveyors of Albania about two years ago, in a document addressed to the Albanian Parliament.

A warning that apparently went unheeded, as such a problem has been repeated for the umpteenth time, and the most recent case was this Tuesday afternoon, when a residential complex was engulfed in flames in the area opposite "Pharmacy 10" in the capital.

According to geodesists, such a warning serves not only to take measures that will benefit engineers, but also to prevent situations that could escalate to the point of loss of life.

"In my capacity as the President of the Albanian Association of Surveyors, I request information on the status of the Draft Law on the creation of the Engineer's Order."

Triggered by the serious problems that have occurred recently, and specifically:

1. The driver of a vehicle ran off the road in the city of Berat, where the driver lost his life along with his child, as evidenced by the fact that decorative barriers were installed instead of retaining barriers.

2. The burning of the facade of the palace in Tirana, due to the use of materials outside technical standards.

The collapse of the so-called bridge on the Korça-Ersekë road, despite repeated warnings that the project was fictitious and did not take into account the climatic conditions of the area.

4. Licensing by the Licensing Commission of technicians with secondary education, granting them the attributes of Engineers.

As a result of poor construction work, outside of any technical conditions, such as in design, implementation or supervision of the works, the Engineer's Order will discipline construction work many times more.

"The delay in this order, in flagrant violation of the law, by not approving it for years and years, is bringing serious consequences in the field of construction in Albania, but also for engineers who seek to respect standards in the field of engineering, has brought consequences, where in certain cases even with the loss of life," the request reads./CNA
