IGJEUM: Weekend with rainfall, risk of flooding in urban areas

The Geoscience Institute has shared a forecast for this weekend's meteorological situation.

According to weather data, Saturday and Sunday will be accompanied by rainfall in most regions of the country, while snowfall will also be possible in mountainous areas.

It is also warned that rainfall can cause various problems, such as falling rocks and debris and flooding in urban areas.

Precipitation:

This afternoon (Saturday, the 7th) and tomorrow (Sunday, the 8th) moderate to locally intense precipitation is expected in the Dibër, Lezhë, Tirana and Durrës regions, while moderate precipitation is expected in the Shkodër, Elbasan and Fier regions. Light to locally moderate precipitation is expected in the other regions. Precipitation is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms (as shown in the table, respectively for each region). In mountainous areas at altitudes above 1100 m above sea level, precipitation will be in the form of snow.

Storms and high rainfall intensity can create various problems, such as falling rocks and debris and flooding in localized urban areas, depending on the sewage system in the Dibër, Lezha and Durrës regions.

Temperature:

Tomorrow, minimum and maximum air temperatures are expected to reach:

on the coast: 10 / 15 °C

in lowlands: 8 / 15 °C

in mountainous areas: 2 / 11 °C

Wind:

This afternoon the wind is expected to blow moderately to strongly in mountainous areas. Tomorrow the wind is expected to blow lightly to moderately.
