Zero cases of cannabis cultivation in Pogradec last year / New plan of measures

Thanks to the close cooperation between the State Police and the local government, the year 2025 ended without any recorded cases of cannabis cultivation in the territory of the Pogradec Municipality.

This result was assessed as an indicator of the effectiveness of coordination between institutions and continuous monitoring work in the field. In a recent meeting, Chief Commissioner Gentan Dedej and Deputy Prefect Luan Maxhari presented the plan of measures for 2026.

"The purpose of this meeting is the fight and awareness against cannabis sativa, we have drafted plans of measures, mainly operational ones against this criminal activity. We are here so that everyone takes their own responsibilities, we as police stations have our duties, the local government has its own, the units yesterday the mayors have their own responsibilities. During 2025 there were zero cases of cultivation in Pogradec, I want this cooperation for this year as well. Pogradec as a city that belongs to the book, the pen, the school, therefore cooperation between us is needed, so that our voice goes to every family and this good work done by my predecessors and you who are here, we can have it throughout 2026" , said the Chief Commissioner, Gentian Dedej.

The Deputy Prefect of Pogradec, Luan Maxhari, stated that increased care is needed in remote mountainous areas, because according to him, there are few inhabitants and these are remote areas that can be exploited for this negative phenomenon.

"We need to maintain this positive trend and pay more attention. Increased attention is needed in remote mountainous areas, because there are few inhabitants, they are remote areas and they can be used for this negative phenomenon. We also need to be careful with abandoned houses in villages, as there are different forms of cultivating this plant. We need to keep an eye on abandoned objects, abandoned plots, so I would ask you to continue this good work this year as well," said the deputy prefect of Pogradec, Luan Maxhari.

During the meeting, a request was made to deepen cooperation between police structures and village elders, with a focus not only on monitoring the territory, but also on preventing any attempt to cultivate narcotic plants.

Authorities emphasized that cooperation with the community remains key to maintaining this standard during the coming year, with the aim of guaranteeing security and order throughout the territory of Pogradec. /CNA
