Fredi Beleri's son, Petro Beleri, has spoken about his father in an interview with the Greek media. He said that Fredi Beleri has been involved in politics for 30 years, and that in Albania he has had three court proceedings, in which he was declared innocent.

"My father has been involved in politics and public affairs for the last 30 years and you understand what it means for a candidate who has been declared the winner of the election to be already in prison."

At the same time, when asked about his father's convictions, he said:

"In Albania, there were three court proceedings, in which he was declared innocent. If there was any doubt that he might have been involved in any illegal activity in the past, believe me, they would not give us an acquittal.

I want to let you know that we have the support of some Albanian citizens. I think that these views are identified with extreme nationalist circles in Albania and that do not want Himara to be given justice and take the office as mayor".

"My father's candidacy and the Beleri issue in general are political issues. There is undivided support and response, it is normal to have differences in some things. But I have seen support from all Greek parties. From the KKE to the right-wing parties", he emphasized.

He also revealed that Fredi Beleri had proposals from other parties in Greece to be a candidate. "More than three. From the whole spectrum, from parties in parliament to parties that are not yet in parliament", added Petro Beleri.

In the end he emphasized that:

"An injustice has happened. One person was arrested before the municipal elections, because the regime's time ended with a weak indictment, with a single witness admitting that he was financed to set up a plot by the Albanian police. We want to send the message that the fight continues, and on June 9, we will send a message of pride and freedom to all."/ CNA
