The scandal with the fire at QSUT/ Alimehmeti: Patients at risk, the hospital
Ilir Alimehmeti

As more than two months have passed since the fire at the Mother Teresa University Hospital Center, patients continue to suffer, while the measures taken to return services to normal are delayed. In a statement for CNA with journalist Fabjona Pasho, doctor Ilir Alimehmeti commented on institutional negligence.

"No one had an emergency plan, like they should. More so where these patients go to get the service. There was no plan ready, a sustainable, long-term plan.

An ambulance takes him, takes him somewhere and they say, today is not the day for this hospital, but for that other hospital. We do not know where the surgical emergency is today. I'm a doctor and I don't know this, I don't have this information, I can't find it. On the other hand, you also have a responsibility that it is full of staff and sick. What if this had been of a larger size?

There was a fire in a modular hospital in Tetovo, 14 people lost their lives and 50 or so others were injured. Fortunately, we had no direct loss of life from the fire at that moment. But not providing the service at the highest possible level, may have caused damage to life and health in the future, through not providing the service."

Alimehmeti emphasizes that the hospital was opened without the coalition, while the consequences could have been fatal.

"Apparently, the investment they were talking about was a brick and mortar investment, so they think only the building makes a hospital, not the people and the functionality. They're used to erecting towers and they think it's the same thing. I don't remember hospitals that others have caught fire in this way and have been rendered useless in this way, as far as I know.

Here there are serious technical conditions that have not been implemented, and this hospital has been put into operation without coalition, the defect happened very quickly."

But in addition to QSUT, Alimehmeti said that the Memorial Hospital of Fier is also boiling with scandals.

"In May, it will be 3 years since the establishment of the Fier Memorial Hospital and it will be the subject of the High State Control. If the KLSH went there, you would have endless negative reports. The director of this hospital is under investigation, but she is not suspended. We have a facade government."

Despite the fact that the Minister of Health, Albana Koçiu, reported two weeks ago to the Commission of Health and Social Affairs, that the work for the return to normality of the QSUT emergency had begun, this Tuesday, through a video on social networks, she announced that the work has begun , while it seems that it is still far from the end, a cost that falls on the citizens, who need urgent health services./ CNA
