The Constitutional Court cannot release Erion Veliaj from prison

Yesterday, the Constitutional Court issued a decision on the legality of the dismissal of the mayor of Tirana. That is, the dismissal from office, upon the proposal of the Municipal Council, signed by the Prime Minister and the election date subsequently announced by the President.

So, if you look at the links, with a cold reading, it is the Municipal Council of the Socialist Party that dismissed Erion Veliaj, following the statement made by Prime Minister Rama at the meeting of the Socialist Party Assembly on September 11, 2025.

Then it was Prime Minister Edi Rama himself who dismissed him, the leader of the Socialist Party who spoke in the Assembly, the one who nominated him, so Erion Veliaj, who was dismissed by him, and the President implemented the law, issued a decree.

Journalists in Veliaj's court have begun to demand reinstatement, and not only that, but also from these pseudo-analysts and servile people who were on his brother's payroll or the mercenaries of the former mayor who is in prison.

But now we must return to the term: the mayor who is in prison for 13 serious criminal offenses, following the decision of the Constitutional Court.

In fact, the Constitutional Court did not release Erion Veliaj from prison. The Constitutional Court has judged the dismissal made by Edi Rama, from the Assembly, to the City Council, to the Prime Minister and to the Presidency. The Constitutional Court reviewed this yesterday.

But Erion Veliaj was not in prison for what the Constitutional Court reviewed. And the Constitutional Court of Sokol Sadushi, the famous friend of the Veliaj family journalist, Mero Baze, cannot release Erion Veliaj, who was arrested for many serious criminal offenses, from prison.

Sokol Sadushi's Constitutional Court cannot bring Erion Veliaj back to office. Yesterday's decision left the mayor of Tirana in office, but he is in Durrës prison and exercises his duties there with delegations.

Erion Veliaj has remained in office simply and solely to use the decision later in Strasbourg to review the case more quickly. Nothing more than that.

The circumstances for Erion Veliaj to be released from prison have not changed. Erion Veliaj was put in prison because he was tampering with evidence when he was in his office. Now he is mayor again, he is in prison and his office is there because if he goes to the one in the center of Tirana, that is, to the mayor's office, he is tampering with evidence and SPAK has caught this in wiretaps, it is proven and documented.

Today we are faced with the fact that the Constitutional Court left him in office. But, the Constitutional Court cannot release Erion Veliaj from prison, because the circumstances have not changed. There are no other facts and evidence to release Erion Veliaj.

We have the same facts and evidence, we are in the same situation. Moreover, the indictment was filed in July and we are in November. After four months, not a single hearing has been held, because Erion Veliaj does not go to court, because he knows very well what serious criminal offenses he has committed and what evidence the prosecution has brought to court.

The decision of the Constitutional Court of Sokol Sadushi reinstates Erion Veliaj, but keeps him in prison, in the cells of Durrës, for the simple fact that none of the circumstances for which he was arrested have changed.

The game continues in the High Court where Sadushi and Xhafaj are lobbying for Erion Veliaj to be released from prison.

Sokol Sadushi be careful! Do not exert illegal influence on other judges on behalf of Veliaj!/ CNA
