Race for Tirana/ Lubonja: Political parties will "wash" their hands if

Analyst Fatos Lubonja spoke about the race for the leadership of the Tirana municipality and the candidacy of Florjan Binaj. Lubonja commented on the opposition parties' support for Binaj, while telling News24 that the Democratic Party has abdicated its responsibility by supporting an independent candidate.

He also added that it is still unknown how much political parties will actually support Florjan Binaj. According to Lubonja, the candidate for the elections in Tirana should have come as a result of talks between the DP and small parties.

"To say the right one, I have to see it in a broader context, by the right one I mean a candidate who represents political parties, while my perception is a problem of the responsibility of political parties. They unite in abdicating responsibility to Mr. Binaj or the small parties that think they are different from the DP, now they all unite behind Binaj.

They seem to have an interest in this, it is not known how much they will actually support it, and on the other hand, the biggest interest is that of the political parties who wash their hands if Binaj loses. Binaj will thank everyone, but problems will arise, who has the victory and who gave it.

There are no signs to be optimistic, that every citizen you meet complains about Tirana and you think that this spirit of complaint will materialize, will appear and be seen but I don't think it will be like that. I see a society very submissive to this reality.

Binaj is a representative of the opposition, as far as civil society is concerned, I see society as dull. For me, the formula should have been a unity around a candidate who comes as a result of very serious talks between the DP and small parties, about the big problems that not only this city has, but also democracy in this city and the democratic governance of this city. One of the things that I call scandalous is an independent power that is local, it is under the command of the central government.

"Edi Rama has the building permits from the 5th floor and above, he received the people's vote but this other one decides. It has a lot to do with the format in which these parties unite. The fascistization of politics in Albania, where a single power controls everything. It is a kind of tendency to control everything, possibly all institutions. Not that the Constitutional Court was not controlled, but no more than during Berisha's time. There was one person left who had an opinion against it, it was Sonila, her removal weakens the reputation of the court," Lubonja said. /CNA
