The north of Albania is the poorest area according to official statistics, but the trend is quite the opposite when it comes to owning a car.

Eurostat has published data on the motorization rate according to the regions of Europe for 2022. The data shows that in the North of Albania, the motorization rate is 260 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants, the highest in the country.

In the central area, there are 226 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants and in the South, 212 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants.

Compared to other European countries, Albania has the third lowest rate of motorization in Europe.

According to Eurostat, in 2022, there were 226 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants in Albania, which places us in third place with the lowest rate for this indicator, leaving behind only Kosovo (182 vehicles for 2021) and Turkey (169). .

According to Eurostat, in 2022 the top 3 regions with the highest motorization rate were in Italy: Valle d'Aosta with 2,339 cars per 1,000 inhabitants, followed by the Provincia Autonoma di Trento with 1,431 cars per 1,000 inhabitants and the Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano with 9 per 1000 inhabitants. Among the 10 regions with the highest motorization rate, 6 were in Italy and 1 each in Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.

At the other end is the French overseas region of Mayotte (83 passenger cars per 1,000 inhabitants), followed by the Greek Peloponnisos (203 per 1,000 inhabitants) and French Guiana (217 per 1,000 inhabitants).

Of the 10 regions with the lowest motorization rate, 4 were in Greece, 2 were in France, 2 in Romania and 1 each in Germany and Austria. Notably, 2 of them were the metropolitan areas of Berlin (331) and Vienna (366).

Regional motorization rates (passenger cars per 1,000 inhabitants) are often linked to economic conditions, but can also be influenced by specific circumstances.
