Chelet Book Fair/ Manastirliu: Prelude to the Assembly of the Albanian Language

The biggest book event, the 27th Tirana 2024 Fair, opened today, bringing authors, publishers and book lovers into the spotlight.

At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, emphasized the importance of the book in education and preservation of cultural heritage.

"The Book Fair is a platform for discussion and sharing of ideas. It brings together authors, publishers and above all young people and students to promote the love for the book, reflecting our cultural and historical identity," said Minister Ogerta Manastirliu.

In her speech, the Minister focused on the cooperation with the Association of Publishers for the enrichment of school libraries, an initiative that is financed every year to promote the love of reading.

"With the Association of Publishers we have a very good cooperation for the enrichment of school libraries, an initiative that is financed every year by the Ministry of Education and Sports to awaken the love for books," said Manastirliu.

Also, the Minister stopped at the work that is being done for the revision of curricula and textbooks, aiming at compliance with European standards.

"We have very important initiatives for the revision of curricula and textbooks. We want to offer European competences through a way of cooperation with publishers and authors. We will start another journey to improve the texts, starting with the Albanian language text," she added.

In the framework of the promotion of the Albanian language and cultural heritage, the Minister announced that an important activity will be organized, the Assembly of the Albanian Language. The fair was described by the Minister as a prelude to the Assembly of the Albanian Language, which will take place on November 21-22. This assembly will gather academics, teachers and representatives of the diaspora to discuss the preservation and promotion of the Albanian language.

"On November 21-22, the Assembly of the Albanian Language will take place, an active platform where Albanian language teachers, academic personalities, pedagogues and representatives of teachers from the diaspora will gather to discuss the preservation and promotion of the Albanian language," declared Manastirliu.

The "Tirana 2024" Book Fair will continue for several days, with diverse activities dedicated to Albanian books, authors and Albanian readers, turning Tirana into a center of literary thought and creativity.
