Arrested for fraud, the notary is sentenced to 12 years in prison

Notary Rezarta Koçi, arrested on February 4, 2022 for fraud, theft and abuse of office, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Court of Appeal.

From the final reduction of the sentence, the notary will serve eight years in prison.

The victims of the frauds of the 40-year-old notary were the owners of real estate or hotels, while through the fraud she managed to acquire 2 million euros, which she then transferred to her personal account.

"At the end of the trial, on 04.04.2024, the Court of Appeal of the General Jurisdiction, composed of the panel with the Judicial Reporter Ms. Lutfije Celami and members Ms. Miranda Andoni and Mr. Qemal Zaimi, decided:

- Enacting decision No. 313 dated 08.02.2023 of the Tirana Judicial District Court with the following amendment: 

- Pursuant to Article 55 of the Criminal Code, after combining the sentences, the defendant R. K is sentenced to a single sentence of 12 (twelve) years of imprisonment.

- In application of Article 406 of the Code of Criminal Procedure after reducing the sentence by 1/3, the defendant R. K is finally sentenced to 8 (eight) years of imprisonment", the decision states.
