Former Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati has considered the passing of Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos a moment of sadness.

Bushati emphasizes that Janullatos is the historical archbishop who rebuilt the institutions of the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church from the ruins.

The former minister says it is a great loss not only for Orthodox believers but for all those who saw Archbishop Anastasios as a devout fighter for peaceful coexistence and harmony between communities with different religious beliefs.

"The historic Archbishop, the one who rebuilt from the ruins the institutions of the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, the Orthodox clergy, and theological education, is no longer with us. 

This is a moment of sadness not only for the Albanian believers who lost their warm chief shepherd, but for all those who saw in Archbishop Anastasios the devout fighter for peaceful coexistence and harmony between communities with different religious beliefs.

I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Archbishop Anastasios closely, whose intellectual capacity was extraordinary. I will always remember his wise saying: “only the power of love can overcome the love of power.”
