Writer Rita Petro has spoken about freedom of expression, self-censorship, and the changes that, according to her, occur in individuals when they become involved in politics.

Invited to the "Alishverish" podcast with Bledi Mane and Gjergj Luca, she stated that self-censorship often does not come from institutions, but from pressure from the people around you.

According to her, overcoming this pressure is a condition for personal and creative freedom.

Petro also spoke about the period of censorship in the past, emphasizing that writers once faced strong restrictions and many works were unable to circulate freely.

She also criticized today's social climate, saying that hypocrisy and a lack of empathy often prevail.

According to her, a noticeable change occurs in people when they enter politics, where their "transformation" is immediate and often profound.

"Self-censorship comes from the people around you. Once you cross the barricade, you can be free. A censorship where poets were killed, the word could not get out. Today we have hypocrites and heartless people, many of those who lead are heartless. As soon as they enter the world of politics, they are transformed. Before they count us, we have done this, man first has a soul," said writer Petro./ CNA
