In Albania, substandard food products are often marketed, endangering the lives and health of citizens.

The Task Force team of the National Food Authority has continuously carried out checks not only on subjects in the country, but has also carried out numerous inspections at border inspection points to take a closer look at the imports of various food products, as well as to made sure that citizens consume controlled products.

CNA TV inquired about this institution to understand how this process went, specifically with meat and dairy products and by-products.

In response to our interest, AKU informs that during the years 2022-2023, a total of 3,608 checks were carried out, and specifically 3,491 checks were carried out in establishments processing and trading meat by-products, while 117 checks were carried out in meat by-product trading entities. During this period, 938 checks were carried out at the border inspection points (PIK), for imports of sausage products.

From all controls, the general director of AKU, Edmond Rrushi informs CNA TV that in the last two years, 3.83 tons of non-standard sausage products have been identified and blocked.

Also, AKU informs that during the year 2022 and for the first nine months of 2023, 2387 checks were carried out, specifically 1904 checks in establishments for the collection, processing and treatment of milk and its by-products, while 483 checks were carried out in the trading units of dairy by-products. While 1348 checks were carried out at the border inspection points, for imports of dairy products.

From all controls, AKU tells CNA TV that 63.54 tons of non-standard dairy products have been identified and blocked./ CNA
