Actions on national roads/ Shkodër-Koplik, family members begin voluntary

The National Inspectorate of Territorial Protection has distributed around 350 minutes to residents and businesses that have occupied spaces within the legally defined distance from the road on the Shkodër-Lezhë and Shkodër-Hani i Hotit axes.

As businesses seem more insistent, the family members have begun work on removing the surrounding walls and moving them to a perimeter 6 meters away from the main axis.

The Shkodër-Koplik segment remains the most problematic due to the density of construction. Household heads point the finger at the institutions, which have allowed the construction of buildings and are now demanding their demolition, causing economic damage to them.

"It has 2 meters to move, I'm building the foundations and moving it. I'm damaged, but I have nothing to do. They should have notified me earlier because when I did it, it was 6 meters from the road, but then the highway was built and the wall came closer. I have 30 linear meters damaged on both sides, as well as the wall, mesh and tiles. I have the land with documentation and I bought it with money. And today 60 meters are missing from this land. I'm only working because my children are outside and they are moving it."

"We spent a lot of money and if we had known, we wouldn't have built that wall. I've built the wall 3 times and now we end up tearing it down again. Too bad. We're not against clearing the road, but we've been here and no one told us how many meters away from the highway we needed to be. When they started tearing down the others, we tore them down too."

Authorities report that about 70% of entities have respected the deadline by freeing up the space themselves, while for the rest, intervention with penalties and seizures will begin. The Lezhë-Shkodër and Lezhë-Milot segments are among the most dangerous in terms of fatal accidents in the country, where illegal constructions on the side of the road have been considered direct risk factors./ CNA
