Representatives of civil society, led by the Albanian coalition Pro Familjes ed Jetës, including many citizens, protested this Thursday afternoon in Skënderbej square, as a sign of revolt against the draft law on surrogacy.

Pastor Akil Pano, one of the initiators of this protest, said that the Albanian family is being threatened by this bill, which he claims is clientelistic.

Pano also stopped at the marriage of two women on the terrace of the Municipality of Tirana, describing the latter as an institution of shame.

"Very close from here we have the Municipality of Tirana, the institution that just 3 days ago, 4 days ago violated one of the most important laws related to the essence of the family, which is marriage. Did you know that marriage in Albania is defined as a civil union between a man and a woman. This is the family code of the Republic of Albania, marriage is a civil institution between a man and a woman. There is no other institution in Albania that can alienate this law, this code, the family code. We must keep the definition of marriage as it is in the holy books and in the civil code of Albania.

This is a propaganda, which seeks to intervene surgically, to perform a surgical operation on the Albanian culture, to transform what is anti-norm into a norm. This is what happened with the permission, organization and approval of the Mayor of Tirana a few days ago in the Municipality of Tirana, which has unfortunately turned into a Municipality of shame and not of honor", declared Pano.

In the protest, the petition with 10 points was also made public, which will be submitted to the main institutions in the country, including the diplomatic missions, asking them to withdraw from the project.

Public figures also participated in the protest. One of them was the actress Eliona Pitarka. She called for more celebrities to join the protest.

The protesters said that the initiative will be taken to the end with the aim of its realization, while they warned of criminal charges against the drafters of the draft law./ CNA
