War breaks out/ Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Saudi Arabia

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's private plane left Saudi Arabia on Monday evening for Madrid, as the Asian Football Confederation suspended eight matches in the Gulf region following the outbreak of war in Iran.

Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 showed that the Portuguese footballer's Bombardier Global Express departed Riyadh at around 9pm local time on Monday and landed in Spain in the early hours of Tuesday, after flying over Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.

The 39-year-old Al-Nassr player left the country after his team's AFC Champions League quarter-final against Al-Wasl was among the postponed matches. It was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Dubai.

Ronaldo, who has scored 22 goals in 26 games for Al-Nassr this season, lives in Riyadh with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and their five children. His contract with the Saudi club runs until 2027.

Tehran launched a wave of missile and drone attacks across the region in retaliation for the joint US-Israeli strikes that killed Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday. /CNA
