The situation has become even more tense after Mohamed Salah's statements, who said that he no longer has a relationship with coach Arne Slot and that he feels "abandoned" by the club. The Egyptian striker has been on the bench for three consecutive games and has openly expressed his frustration.

"I'm very disappointed. I've done so much for this club... Now I'm on the bench and I don't know why. I feel like the club has rejected me. He has hinted that the match against Brighton could be his last before heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

"Come to the game against Brighton. I don't know if I'll play or not, but I'll enjoy it. I'll be at Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the Africa Cup of Nations. I don't know what will happen when I get there," Salah declared.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot's position is in serious jeopardy and the club's board is considering sacking him. Steven Gerrard is the leading candidate to replace him on an interim basis, while Julian Nagelsmann remains an option after next summer's World Cup.
