Italy chooses new coach, trusts former midfielder

Italy have put an end to their dilemma over a new coach. Andrea Pirlo will sit on the bench.

Paolo Maldini and Leonardo's initial target was Pep Guardiola, a coach who represents the football philosophy they want to build in Italy. After the Catalan coach's rejection, attention has focused on a name who shares the same vision.

That name is Andrea Pirlo. The former Italian midfielder is considered by Maldini as the right coach to start a new and long-term project with the national team. Although his experience as a coach has not been long and the results have not always been at the level of expectations, the federation leaders believe that he has the knowledge and vision to build a modern style of play.

Under the current plan, Pirlo is expected to sign a contract that will keep him in charge of Italy until the 2030 World Cup.

The economic aspect is also part of the negotiations. Andrea Pirlo's salary is expected to be around 1.5 million euros per season.

If there are no unexpected developments in the coming days, Andrea Pirlo is expected to be officially announced as the new coach of the Italian national team.
