Great desire in Italy, Guardiola makes the decision

Pep Guardiola has rejected the offer to take charge of the Italy national team, ending the efforts of the Italian Federation and Paolo Maldini.

The Catalan coach's final answer arrived during the night between Thursday and Friday. Guardiola decided to continue with his plan to take a break from football and dedicate himself to his family, after his experiences at Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

According to reports, the decision was not related to financial aspects, but to personal reasons. After this rejection, Andrea Pirlo has become the main candidate for the Italy bench.

Pirlo, currently coach of United FC Dubai, is supported by Paolo Maldini and Leonardo to lead a medium- and long-term project.

Roberto Mancini and Antonio Conte have not been contacted in recent hours. Italy will return to the field on September 25 against Belgium, then play in Turkey, while in early October they will face France and again Turkey in Bologna, in matches valid for the Nations League.
