Trump's wish, Infantino could take the important post

Donald Trump wants FIFA president Gianni Infantino to be the next UN Secretary-General.

According to reports from the New York Post, the American president believes that Infantino enjoys international respect and possesses a special ability to unite people.

The new UN Secretary-General will be elected this year to replace Antonio Guterres, whose term ends at the end of December.

To take the post, the FIFA head would need the support of 15 members of the Security Council and then approval by the General Assembly.

Meanwhile, it still remains unclear whether Infantino himself is interested in this task or whether Trump has spoken directly with him about this idea.

His candidacy comes at a time when other names in the race, such as former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and IAEA Director Rafael Grossi, face resistance from major powers. Through a figure like Infantino, Trump aims to improve relations with the UN, an institution he has often criticized for its ineffectiveness in resolving conflicts.

Such a move would mark an unprecedented shift from the direction of world football to the highest global diplomacy.
