France and Germany join forces to host the World Cup

France and Germany are working on a joint project that could bring the World Cup back to Europe. According to recent reports, the two countries are considering the possibility of submitting a joint bid to host the 2038 or 2042 World Cups.

With the 2030 edition confirmed to be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, and the 2034 edition in Saudi Arabia, attention has now turned to future tournaments. With Paris and Berlin looking to position themselves early in the race to host one of the world's most important sporting competitions,

One of the elements that has driven this idea is the ongoing discussion within FIFA about expanding the World Cup. The tournament is currently scheduled to have 48 teams, but there is a possibility that the number could increase to 64 in the future. Such a decision would automatically mean more matches, more fans and greater logistical demands.

If the World Cup were to be expanded to 64 teams, hosting by a single country would become much more difficult. For this reason, joint bids are being seen as the most likely solution to meet the demands of such a large competition. France and Germany are considered two countries that have the necessary infrastructure for such a project.

Both countries have modern stadiums, developed transport networks and long experience in organizing international sporting events. France hosted the World Cup in 1938 and again in 1998. Germany, on the other hand, hosted the tournament in 1974 and 2006.

In addition to the World Cups, both countries have hosted the European Championships and other major sporting events several times. This experience is considered one of the strengths of their joint project. If the candidacy were to materialize, the organizers would rely on existing stadiums and infrastructure already tested in high-level competitions.

A Franco-German World Cup would also represent the return of the competition to the heart of Europe after a long absence. By then, the tournament will have crossed three different continents, with the 2030 edition in Europe and Africa, and the 2034 World Cup in Asia.
