World Cup of strikers/ Messi, Mbappe, Haaland and Kane start strongly

Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane and Erling Haaland started the 2026 World Cup in a very positive way, being the main protagonists of their national teams.

Messi scored three goals in Argentina's victory over Algeria and reached the 16th goal tally in World Cup history, equaling Miroslav Klose's record.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice in France's 3-1 win over Senegal to become the all-time leading scorer for the French national team with 58 goals. The French forward also scored 14 goals at World Cups, surpassing Just Fontaine.

Michael Oliseh provided the assist for Mbappe's first goal and was instrumental in France's attacking play. Erling Haaland also scored twice in Norway's 4-1 win over Iraq in his first World Cup match.

The Norwegian striker extended his streak of scoring goals for the national team to 11. The three stars of world football thus started the tournament with records and decisive performances.

Harry Kane scored twice in England's 4-2 victory over Croatia. With the brace, the England striker reached 10 goals in World Cup history, equalling Gary Lineker's record for England in the competition.
